Have you ever wondered why Australia only has 400 orthodontists? It’s because it takes on average 12-15 years to gain enough skills to become qualified specialist.

Dr Guy Farland BDS distinction (Otago) BVSc (Massey) DClinDent (Otago) MOrth RCSEd, MRACDS (Ortho)

Guy received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery with distinction and 3-year specialist Clinical Doctorate in Orthodontics from the University of Otago in New Zealand. He also sat and passed the specialist membership examinations of both the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Guy is a highly experienced orthodontist and has cared for thousands of patients in the Illawarra, South Coast and Wagga Wagga over the last 9 years. He also helped develop and teach the orthodontic component of the Bachelor of Oral Hygiene course at Charles Sturt University. He regularly attends specialist conferences to keep abreast of the latest orthodontic developments and has enjoyed mentoring many recently qualified and aspiring orthodontists.

He genuinely enjoys his work and takes great pride in providing exceptional clinical care with a strong emphasis on patient comfort and developing genuine . He takes care to ensure that treatment is always explained thoroughly and that there is always a friendly and open line of communication at all times.

Prior to his career in dentistry and orthodontics, Guy practiced as a veterinary surgeon in New Zealand and the UK. He also served as a Captain in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps Reserves.

Guy and his wife Lyndsey moved from New Zealand to Kiama in 2012 where they found the lifestyle and community spirit of the South Coast the perfect match for them. So much so, they decided to settle here permanently to raise their three children in Kiama

In his spare time Guy is a Nippers Age Manager with the Kiama Surf Lifesaving Club , is an assistant coach for his son’s Kiama Junior Rugby Club and runs first aid for the Kiama Knights Junior Rugby League. Guy also loves to surf, play touch footy and compete in senior surf life saving carnivals.

He is looking forward to continue to provide outstanding service and to give back to the community that has made him and his family so welcome.

 

Dr. Benjamin J. Gaffey B.D.S. (Adel) D Clin Dent (Orthodontics) (New Zealand)

Born in Nowra in 1978, Dr. Benjamin Gaffey can rightly claim that he has the Shoalhaven in his blood. He completed his initial dental training at the University of Adelaide where he received the SAFDER research scholarship. He then went on the work as a dentist with the Royal Australian Navy, deploying out on active missions as well as working on bases along the Eastern seaboard. In 2007 Ben completed a Doctorate in Orthodontics at the University of Otago (New Zealand) and returned to Australia.

Ben joined the LiveWire Orthodontics team in late 2007 where he became the only second fulltime dental specialist to work in the Shoalhaven.
